Privacy notice
This is a private wedding website run by Ace and Adam for our own wedding. It is not a business. We collect the smallest amount of information we can and still know who is coming and what to feed them.
Who is responsible
We are, as private individuals. If you have any question about your information, or want to see it, correct it or have it deleted, write to questions@weacedit.com and we will sort it out ourselves. There is nobody else to escalate to.
What we collect
When you reply to your invitation we store what you type into the RSVP form.
- The names of everyone in your household, as printed on your invitation
- The name of your guest, if your invitation includes one and you add it
- Whether each person is coming
- Menu choices and any dietary requirements you tell us about
- A song request, a favourite memory and a message, if you write them
- An email address, only where you gave us one for the invitation
We also keep a record of sign-ins and changes so we can tell a genuine reply from somebody guessing at codes. That record holds the time, what happened, and a scrambled one-way version of your IP address and browser. We never store your actual IP address, and the scrambled form cannot be turned back into one.
We count page views so we can see whether people are finding the site, using that same scrambled address and nothing else. There is no analytics service involved, no profile is built, and repeat views from the same person inside half an hour are counted once. These counts are deleted after ninety days.
Photos you send us
You can add photographs to the album once you have signed in with your invitation code. Before a photo is stored we strip the hidden information cameras attach to it, which includes the GPS coordinates of wherever it was taken. That happens automatically and is not reversible, so we never hold the location of your house or anywhere else you took a picture.
Nothing appears in the album until one of us has looked at it. If we do not publish a photo we delete the file rather than keep it. You can ask us to remove a photo at any time and we will, no reason needed.
The album sits behind the access code, so it is not visible to the open web, but it is visible to every guest who has that code. Please only add photographs the people in them would be happy to see there.
Cookies
Every cookie on this site is one the site cannot work without, so there is nothing here to switch off. We set no advertising cookies and nothing that follows you to other websites.
- One remembers that you entered the access code, so you are not asked for it on every page. It lasts six months.
- One keeps you signed in to your RSVP after you enter your invitation code, so you can come back and change your answer. It lasts thirty days at most.
- One signs us in to the admin pages where we manage the guest list. It only ever exists on our own browsers.
- One remembers that you have seen this notice, so it is shown once.
None of them can be read by JavaScript, and none of them are sent to anyone else. Your browser settings will let you clear them at any time, which will simply sign you out.
Where it is kept, and who sees it
The site runs on our own hardware rather than a hosting company, and the guest list lives in a single file on that machine. Invitation codes are stored scrambled, so the file on its own does not reveal them.
We do not sell, share, rent or publish any of it. The only people who see your reply are the two of us, apart from the caterer and the venue, who are told the numbers and the dietary requirements they need in order to feed everybody.
If we email you your invitation code, that message passes through a third-party email service in order to reach you, as any email does. If we ever add a video to the site, it is embedded from YouTube or Vimeo in their most privacy-protective mode, and those companies will see that you played it.
How long we keep it
Until the wedding on Sunday, 3 October 2027, and then for a short while afterwards for thank you notes. We will delete the guest list within six months of the day. The messages and memories you write are the one thing we would like to keep, because that is rather the point of asking, and we will hold on to those unless you ask us not to.
Your choices
Almost everything here is optional. The only things we genuinely need are who is coming and what they eat. Leave the song, the memory and the message blank if you would rather not write them, and tell us about dietary requirements another way if you would prefer not to type them into a website. Email us and we will take care of it by hand.
You can ask us at any time for a copy of what we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it. Please reply by 1 July 2027 either way.
